Frequently Asked Questions

  • A fertility nurse provides specialized care and support to individuals and couples undergoing fertility treatments. They assist in the coordination of fertility cycles, administer medications, monitor hormone levels, and guide patients through the procedures, such as IVF, egg retrieval, or embryo transfer. Fertility nurses also educate patients on treatment options, answer questions, and offer emotional support throughout the process. They work closely with doctors and other medical professionals to ensure the best possible care and outcomes for patients trying to conceive.

  • For IVF injections, there are several recommended sites on the body where injections are typically administered. The choice of site depends on the type of medication being injected:

Subcutaneous (SC) Injections: These are injected just under the skin, usually in areas with a layer of fat. Common sites include:

    • Abdomen: About 2 inches away from the belly button, on either side of the lower abdomen. This is the most common site for medications like gonadotropins and hCG.

    • Thighs: The outer part of the thigh, about halfway between the knee and hip, is also commonly used for subcutaneous injections.

It's important to rotate injection sites regularly to prevent irritation, bruising, or discomfort. Your fertility nurse or healthcare provider will guide you on proper technique and site rotation.

  • The cost of IVF medications can vary depending on the specific treatment plan recommended by your fertility specialist and the type of medication script. On average, IVF medications in Australia vary per cycle. The cost typically includes hormone injections, trigger injection, and other medications necessary to support egg retrieval and embryo transfer.

It’s important to note that while some medications may be covered by the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme), the total cost can still vary based on individual treatment needs and the clinic’s practices.

If you'd like a more specific estimate, our IVF concierge team can assist you in getting a breakdown of medication costs tailored to your treatment plan. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!
